Docklands Sailing & Water Sports Centre

We at the DSWC are always looking for companies to get involved with the centre, whether it be financial support or volunteering, there are currently two ways of volunteering at the centre.

Team Challenges

Team challenges are a day out from the office allowing your team to work together in a different environment, and help the community, our team challenge days are organised through the East London Business Alliance. There are currently a number of different opportunities available.

Corporate Team Challenges are a vital part of our operation enabling us to develop small capital projects at no cost to the charity, team challenges are also vital in keeping the buildings maintenance cost down. Previous Team Challenges have included Reuters renovating two of our pontoons and Accenture helping us to renovate our waterside shed. A full list of our projects and supporters is available in the supporters section of the website.

Special Olympics

The centre has recently become involved with the Special Olympics. We are looking for companies to supply volunteers to help train with the special athletes giving them the opportunity to compete.

Special Olympics is an international organisation promoting competitive sport for special athletes. At DSWC we have been helping the only Special Sailing group in the country for the last two years. In 2009 we aim to develop our own group of special athletes, working inconjunction with the special schools that already use us on a regular basis.

As part of this we need volunteers to become Unified Partners, the Unified Partner system works by having the Special Athlete and th Unified Partner learning to sail together. As the Special Athlete progresses up through the levels of the sport the Unified Partners involvement becomes progressively less, empowering the athlete to achieve more and more on their own.

The Docklands Sailing & Watersports Centre is run as a Social Enterprise with limited external funding.
We are supported by Fundraising, Individual Volunteers, and Corporate Volunteering Projects.
Our Youth and Freedom Programs cost £33,000 to run in 2007.
