Twilight is a fun event "borrowed" from our friends down under.
The concept is simple - long evenings - fun sailing - beer (or tinnies as our Oz friends call them) or colddrinks for the teetotallers - and our world famous barbecue.
We hope to see lots of messing about in boats after a hard day at the office, with a beer and barbecue to chill further!
On Wednesdayevenings starting on Wednesday 30 April and throughout the Summer we organise ‘Twilight Sailing’. It originated in Western Australia and is primarily a social event with the aim of introducing people to sailing but most of all to have fun. We will race a simple course in a range of dinghies including Wayfarers, Bosuns, Omegas, which can hold up to 4 people, and a number of single handers as well. There are no rules, except you must not collide with other boats or the dock wall!
This year there is also the opportunity to try out kayaking. You will learn the basics of the sport under the supervision of a qualified instructor, with 'canoe polo' available for those who prefer a little competition!
In Australia the race rules include the requirement to drink a 'tinny' at every mark ! We feel that this could prove excessive in the space of the dock but the tradition of 'tinny' drinking will be expected after the racing.
We will be adding a new element of competition this year, to see who has the best fancy dress each week, there will be a range of different themes over the season with prizes for best, or worst, dressed!
The first race about 6.30pm, last race at dusk The evening costs £20 per head (£15 for members) which includes a soft drink for racing, a tinnie for after', a place in a boat and our famous BBQ which you can visit as many times as you wish and occasional live music to keep the party atmosphere going.
Twilight this year will run every Wednesday from the 30th of April to the 19th of September, please make sure you let us know if you want to sail or kayak when you book.
