RYA ICC Assessment

The direct assessment is for experienced power boat drivers looking to gain their International Certificate of Competence for British flagged vessels. The assessment takes the form of a series of maneuvers to be demonstrated on the water, followed by an oral test on issues of navigation and safety, from which a written record is held by the centre. It should be recognised that an ICC can also be applied for off the basis of an RYA Power Boat Level 2, as this falls under the list of Acceptable Evidence of Competence. The direct assessment should not be seen as an instructed course. It must also be recognised that while a British ICC will cover you on British flagged vessels all over the world, different countries may have different regulations in regards to their own vessels. Anyone gaining an ICC is advised to investigate this before booking the assessment in order to make sure it is valid for the application they wish to use it for. In addition to this, Inland ICC assessments must be accompanied with a CEVNI test before the RYA will process the paperwork. Please be aware that ICC assessments run by the centre only qualify for vessels up to 10m in length.
