Youth Groups and Schools

The centre offers a number of different options for groups and schools wishing to take part in water sports activities.

Taster Sessions

If you would like to come and try one of our activities, but are limited by time, why not book a taster session. These sessions are a two or three hour introduction to the activity of your choice. Packed full of fun, taster sessions are designed to give young people an opportunity to give water sports a go.

Multi-Activity Days

If you would like to spend the day or even half a day trying different water-sports, you could book a multi-activity day. A number of activities can be chosen, depending on the size of your group and length of your visit. For larger groups, it is also possible to have more than one activity take place at the same time, by splitting your group and then switching the groups between activities.

Full/Half Day Series

This programme is aimed specifically at schools and groups who wish to concentrate on individual sports within the activities offered, which reflect the level of competence achievable in the timescale. Sessions focus on specific skills necessary to complete NGB certificates. A minimum of four sessions is required with six or more sessions recommended.

Session Times

Full day activities typically run from 10am until 3.30pm with a break for lunch half way through.
Half day and taster sessions are Monday to Fridays 10am until 12.30pm and Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 1pm until 3.30pm

Activities

Sailing

Sailing is an excellent youth sport, being good for general fitness, highly skilful and great fun! We have a range of youth boats available, to suit all age groups, ideal for young people to learn the basics of the sport right through to the more advanced single and double handed boats. Our instructors will have you wizzing across the dock in no time.
* Maximum 32 Children

Kayaking and Canoeing

Kayaking is the most physically demanding sport we do at the centre. Kayaking is also one of the wettest sports we do, as capsize practises are a vital part of the tuition we deliver. Our BCU qualified instructors will have you playing games and having a great time out on the dock.
* Maximum 16 Children

Windsurfing

Youth windsurfing has now been established at the centre as a firm favourite with the youth members. The sessions are great fun, beginning with basic balancing exercises and quickly progressing to sailing techniques. Youth windsurfing has been fast developing at the centre and we are pleased to see this sport enjoying such a revival.
* Maximum 6 Children

Schools

Sailing and water sports fit in very well with the current government agendas around areas of outdoor recreation, and are an excellent games option, especially for young people who do not usually engage with sport. The centre runs these sessions at a reduced rate for young people compared with the normal adult rate for sessions.

If your school is unable to afford these prices however, it is possible to apply for match funding from the Trust to bring the cost down further. Please call to enquire.

Special Needs

The Centre has an excellent track record of working with young people with special needs. Water sports sessions can be pitched at any level, from trips out in our work boat, to structured instruction towards independent sailing. We pride ourselves on our ability to engage people in water sports regardless of any barriers that they may face, and have worked with a number of organisations in this regard. The Special Olympics sailing squad also use the centre as a training venue, so there is an excellent opportunity for young people with special needs to progress through into competitive sport.
