A Yachtmaster Certificate is a two element course, theory and practical.
Most students take this course during the winter months and then attend
a summer practical course before taking the (DOT) assessment.
The RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate/ RYA Coastal Skipper theory course
is usually attended by students who have previously taken the introductory
Day Skipper Course. This is a more advanced theoretical course in navigation
and meteorology.
The Syllabus makes some provision for revision of subjects in the Day Skipper
course but those who have not previously acquired the knowledge (outlined
in the Day Skipper page) by experience or by attending a previous course
are unlikely to be able to assimilate all subjects covered in the Yachtmaster
course in the time available.
