Youth afloat is DSWC's summer project for London Children. It is open to all children , youth groups and organised summer activity groups in London. Youth Afloat is an important part of the charitable work done by the Centre.

The DSWC Youth Afloat program has been running for 9 Years, and has to date provided over 11000 places for children to access water sports. The program is primarily funded through the fund raising activities of the Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre Trust and also the Isle of Dogs Community Foundation. If you are interested in helping to raise funds for Youth Afloat, either as an individual or an organisation, then there are various opportunities available in the fund-raising section of the site.

This year the centre will be running a summer clinic for children between the ages or 8 and 16. The children will be given the opportunity to build skills in sail sports such as sailing and windsurfing or paddle sports such as kayaking and canoeing. The idea of running the program as a clinic this year is to let the children mix with others at a similar level to themselves and learn at a pace which suits them. Each child will still be working towards acquiring national governing body certificates.

Sessions

. Children will be required to arrive at the centre no later than 09:15 when signing in will commence. Lunch will run from 12:15 - 13:00 and children will need to bring along a packed lunch. All children must be picked up by 16:00 of each day.

All children will need to bring appropriate clothing, footwear, a change of clothes and a towel for the day's activities. Lockers are available for personal belongings which require a non-refundable 20p.

On the Friday of each week we will be scheduling away trips to other centres where the children will get the chance to experience these fantastic sports in different environments. The aim of these trips is to provide an opportunity for the more advanced youths to expand their skills. We will also be running some of the daily sessions on the river Thames where the children will get the chance to experience more adverse conditions than the dock.

We will also be providing the opportunity for youth groups of up to 24 children to attend sessions throughout the summer program. These groups will have to book in advance and will have separate instructors providing taster sessions in sail and paddle sports. The aim will be to introduce new children to water sports and encourage them to return to the centre.

There will also be Multi-activity sessions to allow everyone the opportunity to try he varied water based activities available.
